Rather than each PC download the updates it needs from the PatchSafe servers and thus severely impact the internet for all users, copies of the updates are held locally on your systems. This not only protects internet bandwidth, but it improves speed of deployment too.
To further minimise impact, the updates are downloaded overnight where possible, rather than during the day, so that users are not inconvenienced.
