Lithium-ion batteries (Li-ion) are more normally found in portable electronic devices but APC has just released some uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) using the technology.
Li-ion batteries have much improved specifications when compared to traditional lead-acid batteries found in most UPSs. These will allow for better performance at higher temperatures and greater overall lifecycle of the UPS.
Although the new APC models are more expensive at this stage, prices should improve as the technology becomes more mainstream.

As a result of its rack/tower form factor, it allows for maximum versatility for a variety of applications.
