Wi-Fi Security Flaw Needs to be Patched

Security researchers have released details of a weakness in the way wireless devices connect with each other.

The security vulnerability is in Wi-Fi networks secured with WPA and WPA2. WPA2 is by far the most common encryption method for wireless networks (WPA should not be in use, as it is insecure).

Is the Wi-Fi Problem Widespread?

Many manufacturers are affected, meaning millions of devices are at risk in businesses and homes. Manufacturers are working to release updates to fix the vulnerability and Vantage IT has already started checking and, where necessary, updating supported devices.

By the very nature of wireless, it is not bound by your building’s walls and is therefore vulnerable to attack.

What Should You Do?

We strongly recommend that, for any Wi-Fi devices you may have in your business, the manufacturers’ web sites be checked for firmware updates and, if available, the devices be updated as a matter of urgency.
